Gordon Hoffmann is a broadcaster and entertainment entrepreneur with a career spanning 48 years of local and international experience.
His career covers a multitude of management and “on-air” positions and time slots on National, Regional and Local Radio in South Africa as well as Internationally. This includes top management portfolios and station ownership, and hosting and presenting Peak Morning and Afternoon Drive shows, Mid-Morning Shows, Prime Weekend slots and anchor/producer of News and Sports shows.
He has worked on Springbok Radio, Lourenco Marques Radio (Maputo) and Swazi Music Radio, (forerunner to 702 Talk Radio). Here, he also helped to start up and managed the first radio station for the Indian Community in South Africa, Radio Truro.
Gordon has held a number of Radio Management portfolios including Programme Manager Radio 5 (5fm) SABC, Marketing and Promotions Manager Radio 5/Radio Highveld (Jhb 94.7) SABC and Station Manager MEFM – Plett Community Radio (Plettenberg Bay and Knysna). Whilst manager at Radio 5 he was responsible for the station undertaking the first FM Stereo broadcasts in South Africa. Gordon also owned and managed a local private commercial station, Radio Atlantico Sul (Lda) in the Algarve, Portugal.
He was the first voice heard on Radio Algoa where he presented the Peak Morning Drive Show and various other programmes for a number of years.
Gordon has also established various Broadcasting and Entertainment businesses, including Radio Algarve (Lda) in Portugal, Gordon Hoffmann Enterprises cc in 1994, Beachwaves (Pty) Ltd in 2003, Electric Avenue Media cc in 2005, is the founder and a Director of Wave Broadcasting and Entertainment (Pty) Ltd (in 2006) and most recently, Broadcasting Media Consultants.
In June 2004 Gordon was approached by the Directors and Working Group of MEFM-Plettt Community radio to assist the station with training and their broadcasting. On arrival in Plettenberg Bay, he conducted an intensive 2 day induction and training workshop, subsequent to which he assisted with the development of the MEFM – Plett Business Plan, Marketing and Promotions Strategy, and voluntarily filled the post of Station Manager, Training and Production Manager and Peak Time Anchor.
When ICASA promulgated Low Power Transmission (LPT) Regulations in 2004, Gordon saw the opportunity for the establishment of commercial local radio in Plettenberg Bay and Knysna. MC90.3FM Plett was the first Commercial LPT station licensed in South Africa in 2009. Gordon wakes us up weekdays from 6 to 9 with the Gordon Hoffmann Easy Morning.
